High School Cover Album
coverExodus—not to be confused with the thrash metal band from Richmond—is my high school’s in-house “liturgical rock band” founded and directed by the then principal and later president. After his retirement in 2020, leadership was passed onto a faculty alumna. The band comprises of a group of students selected by the director by audition, and members remain in the group until their graduation. They would play for the school’s monthly liturgies, as well as host outreach concerts for the grade schools within the Diocese in the spring semester. In the succeeding summer, the members would rejoin to record an album of the past year’s repertoire in-house at the school’s music room/studio.
When I was a rising senior in 2019, the band was notified that the previous engineer that worked on the albums would be unable to join us for that year. I, having had production experience, offered to step up to produce the album, and my bandmates and director agreed. Tracking with the full band took about 2 days: instruments on day 1, vocals on day 2. I did the rest of the work over that summer at home, importing the raw audio clips from the Pro Tools session into Ableton Live on my desktop.
